Open weights and license: which Hunyuan3D can you actually download?

Here is the answer people are looking for when they type "Hunyuan3D 2.5 download" or "Hunyuan3D 3.0 GitHub": there is nothing to download. Tencent's GitHub organization contains Hunyuan3D-1, Hunyuan3D-2, and Hunyuan3D-2.1 with weights, plus the sibling projects Hunyuan3D-Omni and Hunyuan3D-Part (open, September 2025), HY3D-Bench (a dataset, February 2026), and two 2026 paper-only repos, Buffalo 1.0 and WorldClaw, that ship a README and no weights. Each Hunyuan3D generation is mainly a geometry upgrade, and the numbers Tencent publishes tell the story. Hunyuan3D 2.1 ships a 3.3B-parameter shape model (Hunyuan3D-DiT) whose meshes the 2.0 report describes as holeless, which is what makes them usable without a repair pass. Hunyuan3D 2.5 replaced that with LATTICE, a shape foundation model whose largest variant reaches 10B parameters, and Tencent's launch post claimed 1024-resolution geometry with ten times more mesh faces than 2.0. Hunyuan3D 3.0 pushed to 1536-cubed geometric resolution with what Tencent calls 3.6B voxel ultra-HD modeling and three times higher precision, and 3.1 kept that resolution while adding more input views.

Use Hunyuan3D 3.0 or 3.1 when quality matters more than ownership and you are fine paying per job: multi-photo captures, text-only briefs, sketches, and the highest resolution Tencent offers, all without a GPU. Do not go looking for Hunyuan3D 2.5; it is a report and a retired hosted engine.

There is no Hunyuan3D-3.0 repository in Tencent's GitHub organization and no matching model on Hugging Face. The same is true of Hunyuan3D 3.1 (January 2026, up to 8 input views). The newest Hunyuan3D with open weights is 2.1 from June 2025, released under the Tencent Hunyuan 3D 2.1 Community License with full training code.

Can I download Hunyuan3D 2.5?

No. Hunyuan3D 2.5 was launched in April 2025 as an upgrade to Tencent's hosted 3D engine, built on the 10B-parameter LATTICE shape model with 1024-resolution geometry and PBR materials, and a technical report (arXiv 2506.16504) followed in June 2025. Weights were never released: there is no Hunyuan3D-2.5 GitHub repository, no Hugging Face model, and the open-source requests on GitHub (Hunyuan3D-2.1 issue #111, Hunyuan3D-2 issues #227, #232, #241) have no maintainer reply. The platform has since moved on to 3.0 and 3.1, so 2.5 exists today only as a paper. Snippets claiming 2.5 is "Apache 2.0" are wrong; no Tencent 3D release uses that license.

What is Hunyuan3D PolyGen, and is it open source?

Hunyuan3D-PolyGen is Tencent's art-grade 3D generation model, announced on 7 July 2025, which uses a self-developed autoregressive mesh model to produce meshes with intelligent retopology, the clean quad and triangle topology that game and film pipelines want. It is hosted only: there is no PolyGen repository or Hugging Face model, and it is the feature Tencent's press release describes as smart topology on the Hunyuan 3D platform. The open-source request for PolyGen in issue #111 on the Hunyuan3D-2.1 repo is unanswered. If you need retopology-quality meshes from an open model, none of the Hunyuan3D open releases provide it.

What is the difference between Hunyuan3D 2.1 and 3.0?

Hunyuan3D 2.1 (June 2025) is open: a 3.3B-parameter shape model and a 2B PBR paint model you can download and run, needing about 29 GB of VRAM for the full pipeline, under a community license that excludes the EU, UK, and South Korea. Hunyuan3D 3.0 (September 2025) is hosted only: Tencent reports 1536-cubed geometry, 3.6B voxel modeling, three times higher precision, and text, image, sketch, and up to four-view input, offered on the Hunyuan 3D platform (20 free generations a day per Tencent) and the Tencent Cloud API at about 25 credits per standard job. So 2.1 is the one you own, 3.0 is the one you rent, and 3.0 is the higher-quality model on Tencent's own figures.

Is Hunyuan3D free?

It depends on the version. Hunyuan3D 1.0, 2.0, and 2.1 have open weights you can download and run for free on your own GPU, within their licenses: 1.0 is non-commercial research only, and 2.0 and 2.1 use a community license that excludes the EU, UK, and South Korea and requires a separate license above 1 million monthly active users. Hunyuan3D 3.0 and 3.1 are hosted: Tencent's global launch press release states 20 free generations a day on the platform and 200 free credits for the enterprise API, after which the Tencent Cloud billing page lists about 25 credits per standard generation at roughly 0.02 USD per credit postpaid (prepaid packs are a little cheaper), with multi-view, PBR, and face control at 10 extra credits each. TripoSR, by comparison, is plain MIT and free to run; the hosted version on triposr.org is paid.

How much VRAM does Hunyuan3D 2.1 need?

Tencent's README states 10 GB of VRAM for shape generation, 21 GB for texture generation, and 29 GB for shape and texture together, and the code ships a low-VRAM mode flag. That puts a complete PBR result beyond most consumer cards, which is why the older Hunyuan3D 2.0 family remains useful: it needs 6 GB for shape and 16 GB for shape plus texture, and offers a 0.6B mini variant and distilled Fast and Turbo models. Hunyuan3D 2.5, 3.0, and 3.1 have no VRAM figure because they never run locally. TripoSR needs about 6 GB and falls back to CPU when no CUDA GPU is present.

What is Hunyuan3D 3.1?

Hunyuan3D 3.1 is the January 2026 update to Tencent's hosted 3D generator, announced on 28 January 2026 as available on the global platform with support for up to eight input views, up from four in 3.0. Like 3.0 it is a service, reachable through the Hunyuan 3D platform, the Tencent Cloud API, and ComfyUI partner nodes, and it has no open weights. Some third-party pages date 3.1 to November 2025; that date belongs to Tencent's global platform launch, not to 3.1. If you see "Hunyuan3D 3.1 download" anywhere, there is nothing to download.

What are Hunyuan3D-Omni and Hunyuan3D-Part?

They are the two open sibling models Tencent released in September 2025 instead of a 2.1 successor. Hunyuan3D-Omni is a 3.3B controllable generator built on Hunyuan3D 2.1 that accepts point clouds, voxels, bounding boxes, and skeletal poses as control signals and runs in about 10 GB of VRAM. Hunyuan3D-Part is a part-level shape generation system (P3-SAM segmentation plus X-Part generation) whose README notes that the open release is a light version and the full version lives in Hunyuan3D-Studio. Both ship weights on Hugging Face under community licenses with the same terms as 2.1, including the EU, UK, and South Korea exclusion.

Is there a free open alternative to Hunyuan3D with no license restrictions?

TripoSR is the plain-MIT option in this comparison: a single-image reconstruction model from Stability AI and Tripo AI that runs in about 6 GB of VRAM, reconstructs in under 0.5 seconds on an A100, and carries no territory clause, no user cap, and no restriction on training other models. The trade is output quality: vertex colors rather than PBR materials and less fine detail than any Hunyuan3D generation, so it suits fast drafts, modest hardware, and products that need a clean license rather than hero assets. It also runs hosted in the browser on triposr.org with textured GLB output; that hosted version is a paid product, while the open model itself is free to download.
